I'm a director of an organisation that used to rent an office from Westmead Business Group (WBG). For a period of three years we rented an office in Westmead
Business Centre Sutton, but the whole experience was one my staff and fellow directors would all like to forget. Things didn't start off too well as we were repeatedly invoiced incorrect amounts, important post went missing because the reception staff kept returning it
as no longer at this address! We found the reception staff completely unhelpful and all complaints seemed to fall on deaf ears.
More concerning was the poor condition of the building. During our occupancy there were a number of times when water leaked through the roof causing disruption to several offices occupying the building. However despite this no work was carried out to repair the roof. When work did start it was too late and on Friday 20th July 2007 water literally flowed through the building through a leaking roof following a heavy storm. Many companies suffered damage and disruption to trading. This was all avoidable had WBG repaired the roof during the previous summer.
A number of tenants were extremely angry that WBG neglected the building and failed to take necessary measures to waterproof the roof despite several warnings. Following 20th July incident, tenants got together for a series of meetings where it became apparent the roof had been leaking for a few years prior to our occupancy.
Furthermore Westmead Business Centre suffered from poor health and safety. In my own experience there were occasions when fire doors were locked! In 2007 a prohibition notice was served and the company was fined a record amount for health and safety offences.
